Remember when I said I wasn’t selfish?
I fibbed, I lied, and I exaggerated the truth. What- ev.
Because for at least a couple of hours a week, preferably Sunday; I selfishly do something for myself. Just me. By myself. Alone.
And here’s why….
Think back to last week- remember all the laundry you washed and folded? What about all the meals you prepared and the dirty dishes you washed because of them?
AND… if you’re a Mommy with little ones, chances are you didn’t even ‘potty’ alone.
Not that I don’t enjoy doing these things for my family, but the week’s worth of smelly laundry that came home from summer camp last week? Yah that almost earned me a trip to the spa for a day.
And because it’s Sunday it starts again tomorrow in full force.
This brings me to the reason I choose Sundays. Not only is it a more relaxing day around here but it also gives me a chance to clear my head and calm myself prior to the storm busy week ahead.
Before I started doing this, by the time Wednesday rolled around I was ready to join the circus – that would have been more calming than the chaos around here. But as tempting as that was, all the free cotton candy and funnel cakes in the world never compared to the two hours I gave myself.
So here’s what I like to do: ever since Brandon joined the military and he left for training; the kiddos were put down for bed a little early on Sundays. That’s the time I use for me. To do a craft, read a book, watch a movie, touch up my pedicure, or soak in the tub. Alone.
Sometimes I’ll pour a glass or three of wine and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Even if you’re not the wife of a deployed soldier…do this for yourself. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day to day busy schedules that we forget to make sure we’re taken care of. But when Brandon’s gone this is something I put on my schedule for the sake of my sanity and the love of my children.
This week I’m locking myself in my craft room and finishing a project I started a couple of months ago. I’ll post pictures this week along with a tutorial.
Are you going to be selfish this week? It doesn’t have to be on Sunday, it can be any day that your schedule allows. Let me know your plans, share your ideas if you already have ‘me’ time scheduled for the week.
