Around here, coffee is an important part of our day. Whether it’s in the morning before starting a busy day, in the evening after that day got a bit stressful, or the endless pots consumed on a long relaxing weekend. We drink a lot of coffee.
Well, imagine if you were a soldier and your workday was in a place far from the comforts of your home.
While deployed.
That just ‘upped’ the long-busy-stressful factor. And the fact that you don’t have the comfort of home before or after that day, I can only imagine adds to that.
What if there was a way you could help make that soldier’s day a little less stressful by buying them a cup of coffee and sending them a little note to let them know someone’s thinking of them.
Guess What?!
There IS!!
Green Beans coffee has set up café’s in several locations right alongside our deployed troops.
Through their program “A Cup of Joe for a Joe” for every $2 you donate a soldier will receive an e-card that allows them to purchase a cup of coffee or use it towards the purchase of a ‘treat’ of their choice. Along with their cup of coffee they’ll receive a note from you and have the opportunity to write back.
How cool is that?!!
Duh, it’s totally super-cool!
But this is where it tugs on my heartstrings….. And the Mommy in me….
Sometimes this is the only mail that soldier may receive while deployed. So imagine the morale boost that comes along with it as well.
After 3 deployments Team Duncan has sadly seen, firsthand, the effects it has on a soldier when they don’t receive mail. Some of them are away from home for the first time and all it takes is a small gesture to let them know that someone is most definitely thinking of them.
So here’s where I’m stepping up:
I’ll pick up the tab for the coffee…that’s right, I’ll send the troops a cup of coffee from you- on me!
How cool is that?!
You guessed it…..Totally super-duper-cool!
AND that’s not all- When I contacted Green Beans to get graphics for this post they were so moved by the generosity that they have graciously donated a ‘surprise’ for one lucky commenter. So not only will a Joe or Jane get a cup of coffee, you have a chance to win something too!
If you’d like, please follow Green Beans on Facebook and/or Twitter. Their Facebook updates are amazing and put a face to some of the Joe’s and Jane’s that benefit from your donations. You can also check out their website so you can pick up the tab for a cup of coffee as well.
How to enter:
All you have to do is leave a comment* including what you’d like to say in your note and I’ll include it with my donation.
Yep, it’s that easy!
*One comment per person only please.
Comments for this post will close at noon MTN time Sunday July 31, 2011.
The winner of the ‘surprise’ from Green Beans will be announced on my Facebook page that day, and then on my blog the morning of Monday August 1, 2011.
Disclaimer- I want to let you know that Team Duncan has in no way been paid or compensated by anyone to promote this program. We have supported it and encouraged others to
donate in the past and thought it would be a great way to bring more attention to the wonderful thing that Green Beans is doing for our troops!
This is such a great cause Brandi! Thank you for using your blog to do this! I would love to say thank you to the soldier who volunteered to protect our country and interests! I wish I could buy you this coffee in person and hear your story! Prayers are being said for your saftety, peace, and well being. thank you seems so inadequate for the job you do, but Thank You!!!!
Thank YOU Stacey!
I’ll be sure to forward their responding email to you 🙂
What a wonderful idea! I think this is awesome!
To the soldier who receives this:
There are no words for the gratitude we feel for the job you do. My husband spent 4 years in the Army and my great uncle fought in WWII. We know the sacrifices you make every day to fight for freedom that most people take for granted. We could never express the emotion we feel knowing that you are risking your life everyday for us. I wish I could share a cup of coffee with you and have the opprtunity to shake your hand and thank you in person. Just know that someone back home is thinking of you tonight and will always be grateful for what you’re doing!
Thank YOU Crystal, and Thank You to your husband for his service.
I’ll be sure to forward their responding email to you 🙂
This is a wonderful thing to do. With every deployment my husband is told to let me know who isn’t getting mail and I always make sure that they get things from us. No soldier should go without getting something while deployed.
On the note just say Thank you.
Thank YOU and your family for their service, it’s amazing that something that we take for granted, like getting a card or note in the mail can do so much for their morale.
I’ll make sure I send you their responding email 🙂
This is AWESOME!!! Go Brandi, GO! I am reporting to my FB page now…and donating too 🙂

Hello friend! I hope your day today is just a little better because if a happy hello doesn’t do it for you, then a little treat should help 🙂 And while I’m dropping this note I wanted to add that I’m very grateful for what our service men and women do for this country and for the world. Keep standing up for humanity. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again.
Thank You Shelly 🙂
I will forward the responding email to you.
I’m a military brat and wife, and although we’re involved with our local folks, I didn’t realize that folks don’t get mail. My message would be: you’re thought of, you’re amazing, and come home safe!!
Liz

…. I can’t wait to read the reply from your message if another branch get it…LOL!
I’ll forward you the responding email 🙂
This is a great idea! And so incredibly generous of you! I know my deployed soldier has enjoyed having a GreenBeans Cafe while in transit so he has a place he can get some privacy (40-something to a tent in Kuwait makes “quiet time” non-existent) as well as a great cup of coffee 🙂
As for the message:
Thank you for your service. You are loved, thought of, and supported here at home. Praying for your safe and swift return.
Thank You J’Lynn!
You and your deployed soldier’s service is greatly appreciated!
I will be sure to pass on the responding email from your note to you 🙂
