Hey there everyone, I hope you’re getting ready for Fat Tuesday!
If you’ve been reading Team Duncan for awhile you know that my Daddy is Cajun. So around here that means this time of the year is filled with lots of gumbo, a ton of beads and a few King Cakes here and there for good measure!
Every year I try to mix it up a bit and find different cakes in order to make finding the baby in the cake even more fun.
This year I went with two variations that aren’t anything like the ‘traditional King cakes’ which are more of a pastry type dough filled with cinnamon and sugar.
I started off by preparing a yellow cake mix according to the directions on the box….love boxed cake mixes 😉
I divided the batter into thirds and mixed purple food gel into one and green into the other leaving the third yellow:
And then, because I hate to grease and flour pans, I sprayed a mini bundt pan with Bakers Joy…love that stuff too 😉
After that I layered the colored batter into the pan:
Then baked it according to the box and let it cool.
While those were baking I lined a cupcake pan with liners and used the remaining batter to make cupcakes, and baked those according the box, then let them cool.
After the cakes were cooled I turned one over and cut a slit into the bottom of one so I could hide the baby.
I did the same with the cupcakes only I cut a slit into the top of one.
For the bundt cakes I drizzled them with some powdered sugar that I had mixed with some milk and a dash of cinnamon. The cupcakes were frosted with white frosting and then both were sprinkled with green and purple sprinkles.
“Laissez les bon temps rouler!”
And now, because I forgot which ones I hid the babies in, it’ll be a surprise for everyone. But don’t be like me, unless you want to be the one throwing the party again next year!
