For our Round Table discussion this week, we want to know your opinion on whether or not parents should immunize their children.
Outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases are on the rise. A growing number of parents are choosing not to vaccinate their children. Are those two statements connected? Health officials warn that vaccine refusal is leading to growing numbers of more susceptible children thereby providing more opportunity for these diseases to flourish. This, of course is believed to put infants, the immunodeficient, and the elderly at serious risk.
Enraged parents are questioning whether unvaccinated children should be allowed to join clubs, sports teams, or even attend school. Parents opting-out feel the risks outweigh the benefits. Furthermore, they believe the benefits are exaggerated by health companies looking to profit from the vaccine industry.
What, then, are parents to do? Who can they trust to help them make an educated decision on whether or not to vaccinate? Is there a better solution?
