Ever put your kids in time out?
Ever put them in time out because you needed the break? Ok, that was a joke, but do you ever wish that someone would put you in timeout?
Parents do a lot and we’re responsible for more than even we realize. Just like our kids, sometimes we need to take a little breather—get some down time.
How do you do it? Do you wait for things like the school spring breaks? Take a family vacation in the summer? Spend an hour of me time every night to read or soak in the bath? Maybe you go for a jog every morning before the kids wake up for school.
This week, we want to know how you recharge those batteries. With spring in bloom and only a couple of months until summer, let’s share some ideas with each other on how to accomplish the big unwind.

I get up do 40 slow squats (no weights) jump in shower, try to leave house by 4:45am. Office 5 am (no traffic). Bang out a ton of work before world is up. Leave work 4;30-7 depending on day to be with kids with no distractions. 😀
Sounds like you have it figured out. Judging by the times listed, you have a lot that can distract you around. I get up earlier than everyone else also. It helps get things done.
you bet!
A random day off from work (Friday or Monday preferably) helps me out a ton. Sleep in, have the house to myself and just get to do whatever befits my mood. Whether I’m in clean the house and exercise mode, or in a play Playstation and nap type of mood, just having the ability to choose between one or the other is sometimes half the battle.
You know, I need to start unplugging more. One day for me wouldn’t cut it. I stay so busy so much that even my days off don’t feel like I’m off.
Sometimes just being allowed to just get out of the house and do whatever you want, whether that is go sulk in your sorrows at a local watering hole, or hit up a baseball game seems to help out a ton.
Sometimes I OFFER to run to the store real quick just so I can get some fresh air.
My dad does that. He kept a post office box in town rather than using the rural route box, just so he could go in and check the mail or do whatever.
I don’t know if it’s because I spend every morning early to myself or what, but I almost never seek time by myself. I get an hour, usually every morning and sometimes late night, so my little bit of “me” time isn’t far between.
I use the gym, Social Media (The Dads Round Table Community), comics, and some gaming to give myself a break from reality.
I need to get back to the gym. I’m so tied to this damn computer…
And for the record? Calvin and Hobbes is the best comic. Ever.
I unwind by being social. To be perfectly honest, a night at the pub is all I need, preferably when others are shouting my pints (that’s local idiom for buying a round; I’m trying to help you out for when you visit, and so you’ll know how to tell the bartender that you are willing to pay to watch me knock back some suds.)
Quiz night at the pub. Problems = solved.
I’d love to come visit! I hate to say it, but after the LOTR series, I’ve wanted to check out NZ.
