The beginning of the summer season can be both fun and stressful for us. Depending on the household adjustments needed, the beauty of summer truly is in the eye of the beholder. No matter how rough the season starts, though, we always end up with great stories come fall and beyond.
The beginning of summer is marked by some significant holidays. Memorial Day, with its somber tone, unofficially kicks off summer and plays host to summer clothing sales and the official kick off to grilling season. Father’s Day is not far behind it, and if you’re anything like me, you’d like to be eating a nice juicy steak or burger off that new grill you just splurged on.
Am I right?
Well, that leads us to this week’s Round Table Discussion and weekly #DadsRT Twitter chat topic.
This week we are joining forces with one of the kings of juicy, delicious, mouth-watering meats, Omaha Steaks, to talk about cooking with the kids. Makes sense, right? They were bored ten minutes after school got out and you will take as much grill time as you can, so why not combine the two?
Granted, grilling has traditionally been one of those father-to-son bonding times, (kind of like fishing trips and peeing in the woods) but we think it’s important to get the whole family involved. So if you were daddy’s or mommy’s little cooking helper or have one of your own, comment here and join us with Omaha Steaks on Twitter this Wednesday, June 5th at 9PM Eastern for #DadsRT chat to talk about cooking with kids.
As a big, juicy bonus, Omaha is letting you in on a special Father’s Day promotion (with some DEEP savings) and has a few gifts for you during the chat to boot! Bring your appetite and your stories. Wednesday is going to be delicious.
In the meantime, give our sponsor a visit and follow them socially:

I loved helping my parents cook. My dad handled breakfast and steak grilling, my mom the rest. One of my favorite things to help my mom with was her homemade pasta sauce. She’d make it in this huge stove top pot and it would simmer all day and make the house smell incredible. At some point in the process she would add meatballs and sausages to the sauce and those would slow cook for hours upon hours. (I’m drooling right now.) Being of Syrian heritage, she would also make homemade “string cheese.” This was quite the process and always fascinated me, especially the twisting thing she would do at the end to produce the finished product.
My boys used to help me more with cooking when they weren’t so crazy and I could sit them both up on the kitchen counter without worry for wrestling or fighting mid process. Making homemade pizzas works out the best with them these days because they can each make their own pie and getting messy is encouraged. Plus, shredded cheese is always a good time.
My grandmother was a cook at my uncle’s Italian restaurant when I was a kid. I spent hours down in the kitchen watching her make homemade raviolis, lasagna, and meatballs. I’ve always had an appreciation for cooking.
And occasionally, I’ll strike up the stove and grab a recipe with the kids and we’ll cook something. Anything really. Whatever I might have in the house to make.
Its part fun, part bonding, part who wants to be the guinea pig and taste whatever it was we just made.
