First time in the snow

Published on January 21, 2012Filed Under: Original Short Fiction Tagged With: Humor

This week, we were challenged to “Write a piece (fiction or non-fiction) in which your character is experiencing the worst part of winter.”
We’ve been looking at Pinterest pics a lot this week, and I caught a little inspiration from a picture. The piece is short, but I thought it was funny. We just can’t be serious all the time, right? Enjoy.
~~~
Can I go outside?
“Do you need to go out?”
Didn’t I just say that?
“Ok, ok! Settle down… put this sweater on. It’s cooooold out there!”
What the heck are you talking about?
“Just c’mon, let’s go.”
WHOA! What is THIS?!! This stuff is crazy! Seriously, what is this?
“That’s snow, little buddy. You’ve never seen snow, have you?”
No, this is weird! I’ve heard about it on T.V… good gosh it’s cold! My nose is running! What in the world?
“When I was little I would stick my tongue out and catch the snowflakes. Try it.”
Really? Do they taste funny? Mmmnode theyw don tase lak anyding. Well, that was fun. It’s just water. Ok, I’m going to go over here for a minute.
“Don’t go too far. I really don’t want to get out there in it. I’m chilly already. And I don’t need you getting sick.”
I won’t. Man. Everything looks different. I think that’s my bucket.
*Scratch*
*Wipe*
Yep. That’s my bucket. Oh. I need to go pee. I wonder… HA! Yellow snow! I made yellow snow!
“Really? Right out in the open? I hope your mother doesn’t see that. Or step in it.”
Oh. Sorry.
“Ready to go back in?”
Heck yeah! It’s freezing out here! HEY! WAIT! Wait for me!
He looks like Gizmo!
      Thanks, Lucy. Normally, I take these things seriously, but I saw this and had to do one for our daughter. She loves dogs. She laughed so hard at this! 🙂
    I really wish our dog could talk sometimes because he would probably complain about the rabbits that have invaded our neighborhood. LOL
      LOL! I’m not sure I’d want to hear what ours has to say. I’ll leave it to the imagination. HA!
    I have a Lab, famous for being a great water dog, she’s scared of rain. I would love to see what she’d do in snow. It would be hilarious. This piece is funny. I think you captured that first experience very well.
    I absolutely love the “flying dog” picture at the end. Also, I love it that the dog has a 8 year old boy’s sense of humor about the yellow snow!
      8 year old?! Most 30+ year olds still have that! 😉 Thanks for reading!
      Thanks Steeven. My daughter busted up when she saw this. It does look a little like ours also. 🙂
