This week’s Red Writing Hood prompt was: Physical beauty. It can open doors – and can also shut them. Write a scene in which a physically beautiful character is somehow impacted by that trait.
Here’s my take. Constructive criticism always welcomed!
The ad ran in the local paper for more than two weeks.
Opportunity now open at KLBC for three afternoon shows per week.
If you think you have what it takes to get your audience to fall in love with you, call in by Friday the 16th, 2:00 at 555-1234. Initial interviews conducted via telephone.
Looking for more than a pretty face.
“Mr. Hotstuff”, as he became known at the studio, called during lunch on the final day of the interviews.
Bill, the station manager, Jeff, VP of marketing, and two interns sat around a modest table in the conference room eating Chinese takeout and discussing who would be called in to conduct the second round of interviews, when the phone rang.
Bill, the station manager, pushed the speaker button.
“KLBC, this is Bill, how may I help you?”
“It’s more of a question of how you can help yourself.” the voice on the other end asserted.
“And how is that?” Bill questioned.
“You can call the other applicants back and let them know that the position has been filled by yours truly here.”
The mouths of the interns dropped. As did one’s chopsticks.
Bill and Jeff shared smirks.
“And what makes you so confident that you have the spot?” Jeff asked.
“Looking as good as me? Your ratings will be off the chart, trust me.”
“You don’t even know what the show is yet, my man.” Bill said.
“Doesn’t matter. As good looking as I am, I could talk about sewage and people would watch.” The voice bled confidence.
“Watch?” one intern whispered to Jeff.
Jeff raised his forefinger to him in ‘just a second’ fashion.
“Hey, stud,” Jeff stifled back his building laughter, “you do realize that KLBC is a radio station, right?”
Laughter erupted in the room—followed by a dial tone from the tiny phone speaker.
